ALERT LEVEL 2

Get Outdoors but Stay Safe!

The Government of Newfoundland & Labrador has released a comprehensive plan that is designed to get Newfoundlanders back outside while keeping them safe and controlling the COVID-19 pandemic. At Rafting NL, we respect the Government guidelines in place and will absolutely adhere to all guidelines as they change moving forward. Fortunately, we are able to offer river adventures at most levels of alert safely and responsibly. The actual activities offered are going to look a bit different than what you are used to at Rafting NL, but you will still have an incredible outdoor adventure experience with the greatest river guides on the planet!

COVID-19 Safety at All Alert Levels

You can check out this list of all of our activities and at which Alert Level we are able to offer them.

We must be diligent to ensure we do not end up back at Alert Level 5 (Official guidelines)

Unfortunately in order to ensure the safety of our clients and staff, we cannot offer any services while the province is at Alert Level 5.

Our team is however busy working from home to take care of client needs, and also to sharpen our skills on the water as safety and physical distancing permit.

Please take care of each other and stay safe!

We'll be rafting together again soon!

We must be diligent to ensure we do not end up back at Alert Level 4 (Official guidelines)

At Level 4 it is still absolutely essential to maintain our "two household bubble" (+ six additional people) and to ensure physical distancing of 2m is respected for everyone outside of our bubble. The good news is that we can stay safe while still having amazing river adventures!

For all of our tour options below, all clients from each booking MUST be part of the same "bubble" as defined by the Government guidelines. Unfortunately it is NOT possible to book a guided trip with friends or family that are outside of your bubble. All tours will be private tours.

If you would like to participate in an activity with friends and family outside of your bubble, we are offering canoe & kayak rentals in Gorge Park that may suit your needs (more details below).

Please note that at Level 4 the Government is asking us to restrict all non-essential travel. With this in mind, we are only offering tours to customers staying in the Exploits Valley. No exceptions will be made.

Clients that are at higher risk of complications due to COVID-19 will not be permitted to participate.

Level 4 Activities

Badger Chute Express

We are offering families a variation of our traditional Badger Chute Rafting Adventure. At Alert Level 4, each time slot will be limited to members of the same "bubble" and can accommodate a total of up to 8 people spread out over two rafts (maximum 5 clients per raft, maximum 4 with paddles). Our rafting guides will be positioned over 2m away from the paddlers thanks to our specialized stern-mounted oar frames. Clients can either choose to paddle, or further limit their contact with our equipment by just relaxing and enjoying the ride. This trip can be run with full whitewater adventure and all the splashes, dunks and excitement of our usual trips, or you can choose a tamer and mostly dry experience. If you choose the mostly dry experience, you can wear a face mask during the full trip if it makes you more comfortable. As this is a private tour for your family, the tour is 100% customized to your needs! In order to limit the time our guides have to approach you closer than 2m, we will not be offering swimming opportunities while rafting, but we can still stop at the Badger Chute rapid for swimming on request. No food is provided with this adventure. This trip is a fantastic experience in any weather!

Our ~4hr Badger Chute Express Adventure departs every hour starting at 11am with our last trip of the day at 5:00pm. Click here for more information!

Premium Night Rafting

Our premium night rafting package is a truly unique adventure that your family will remember forever! We start off with a private Badger Chute Express rafting adventure as above and time our journey so that we are hitting our last great rapids just as the sun sets over the Exploits River. Next we pull over on to a scenic rock island and share a campfire as we wait for the dazzling stars to fill the sky (don't worry, we always follow all current fire regulations). We will provide you pre-packaged campfire snacks, and our guides will remain at a safe 2m from you so you can experience the campfire with your family in safety. We will also have a telescope available if you are interested in stargazing or getting a much better view of the moon.

When you are ready to continue we will drift down the secluded Exploits River lit only by the stars and the moon. Experience the peaceful serenity of nature and hear only the sounds of the oars splashing in the water as your guide propels you back to Riverfront Chalets.

At Alert Level 4, our premium night rafting experience can accommodate a total of up to 8 people spread out over two rafts (maximum 5 clients per raft, maximum 4 with paddles). All participants must be from the same "bubble". Unlike our normal Badger Chute adventure, night rafting is weather dependent. The duration of this adventure can be as little as 4hrs, or as long as you like - it is your night, so you set the rules!

Our Premium Night Rafting Adventure runs daily at 7:00pm - weather depending. Click here for more information!

Beothuk Falls Signature Experience

The Bethouk Falls Signature Experience is perfect for anyone looking to experience the remote back country of Newfoundland and possibly photograph some wildlife. At Alert Level 4, the trip is limited to a maximum of four clients and all must be part of the same "bubble". The 4-5hr trip features a very remote section of the Exploits River, where you can enjoy a backcountry experience that was once the migratory highway of Newfoundland native Beothuk people. Your guides will teach you about the rich history of the river and the Beothuk people as well as how to forage for food in nature. The highlight of the trip is the amazing Beothuk Falls, a large cascading waterfall that spans the entire river. The waterfall provides you with the perfect spot to take amazing photos of a place that few will ever have a chance to see. While at the falls our  guides will teach you how to cook a fresh meal, and you can sit and enjoy your meal by the falls just like the Beothuks did for thousands of years.

Our Beothuk Falls Signature Experience runs daily at 1:00pm - weather depending. Click here for more information!

Bishop's Falls Canoe/Kayak Tour

If you're looking for a different kind of adventure, we offer 4-5hr canoe & kayak tours from Gorge Park in Grand Falls-Windsor to the famous Bishop's Falls Trestle Bridge. Experience a very scenic section of the Exploits River and test your skills on some small rapids along the way! Half way through your adventure we will be stopping at the stunning Rattling Brook Falls where you can enjoy a pre-made healthy snack and perhaps a boil-up while we take in the majesty of the location. You can participate with our canoes or kayaks, or even bring your own boat if you prefer. At Alert Level 4, we can accommodate up to 8 clients per trip, and all must be from the same "bubble". Some paddling experience is required (or you can participate in our Introduction to Canoeing/Kayaking first).

Our Rattling Brook Falls Canoe & Kayak Tour runs daily at Noon - weather depending. Click here for more information!

Introduction to Canoeing/Kayaking in Gorge Park

Always been meaning to learn how to canoe or kayak, but never got around to it? Our guides can help! Try our introduction to canoeing/kayaking adventure and our guides will teach you the basics through an hour of private instruction! Absolutely no experience required! At Alert Level 4, we can accommodate up to 8 clients per adventure, and all must be from the same "bubble". Client to guide ratio will be 2:1 for canoeing, or 1:1 for kayaking.

This adventure MUST be booked online or by phone in advance to ensure we do not have line-ups at the park.

Our Introduction to Canoeing/Kayaking Adventure runs every hour starting at 10am with our last adventure of the day at 8:00pm - weather depending. Click here for more information!

Gorge Park Canoe/Kayak Rentals

In addition to our guided adventures, you can also just rent a canoe or kayak for your own personal paddling adventure in Gorge Park. Please make sure you respect all the government's COVID-19 precautions, and if you are paddling with people outside of your "bubble", please ensure that you remain at least 2m apart and never in groups larger than 10 people. Some paddling experience is required (or you can participate in our Introduction to Canoeing/Kayaking first).

Rentals MUST be booked by phone in advance to ensure we do not have line-ups at the park.

Our Canoe & Kayak Rentals are available for as much time as you like starting at 10:00am and finishing at 9:00pm - weather depending. Multiple day rentals are also available. Book by calling us at 709-700-8807

We must be diligent to ensure we do not end up back at Alert Level 3 (Official guidelines)

At Alert Level 3 our adventures are finally open to ALL RESIDENTS OF NEWFOUNDLAND & LABRADOR, not just Exploits Valley locals! Welcome back everyone! Unfortunately though we are still closed to our Come-From-Away friends

We are still required to maintain a "bubble", but the number of people permitted in our bubble will increase, but has not yet been confirmed. We will adhere to the guidelines and adjust our trips accordingly once they are determined. It is still important to do our best to maintain a minimum physical distancing of 2m with those outside of our bubble.

Please note that at Level 3 the Government is suggesting that we restrict all non-essential travel. While we will accept bookings from any resident of Newfoundland & Labrador, we will trust that you are following all government guidelines.

Clients that are at higher risk of complications due to COVID-19 will not be permitted to participate.

Level 3 Activities

Exploits Canyon Light

At Alert Level 3 we can offer a variation of our famous high-adventure Exploits Canyon rafting. The only significant difference is that we will be doing our best to prevent clients from falling off the raft or allowing our rafts to flip. While we understand that the raft flipping can be the best part, we would prefer to avoid contact with our guides as much as possible, so we will be limiting the chances they will need to pull you back on to the raft.

Don't worry though, you will still be facing up to 10ft massive waves through an 80ft rock walled canyon! These are the biggest commercially run rapids in Eastern Canada, so even though we will be taming things down a bit more than normal, the Canyon can NEVER be fully tamed!

At Alert Level 3, each time slot will be limited to members of the same "bubble" and can accommodate a total of up to 10 people spread out over two rafts (maximum 6 clients per raft). This trip is a fantastic experience in any weather!

Our ~2hr Exploits Canyon Adventure runs daily at 10:00am, 2:00pm & 6:00pm. Click here for more information!

Badger Chute Express

We are offering families a variation of our traditional Badger Chute Rafting Adventure. At Alert Level 3, each time slot will be limited to members of the same "bubble" and can accommodate a total of up to 16 people spread out over two rafts (maximum 9 clients per raft, maximum 8 with paddles). In order to limit the time our guides have to come into contact with you, we will not be offering swimming opportunities while rafting, but we can still stop at the Badger Chute rapid for swimming on request. Food is not provided with this adventure. This trip is a fantastic experience in any weather!

Our ~4hr Badger Chute Express Adventure departs every hour starting at 11am with our last trip of the day at 5:00pm. Click here for more information!
